This apartment refurbishment project by Proctor and Shaw aims to create a functional and efficient space within a modest footprint. The design included reconfiguring the bedrooms to make way for an open plan kitchen, dining, and living area that maximizes the small footprint of the property.
The focal point of the design is a beautifully detailed timber screen wall that not only separates the bedrooms but also provides ample storage, concealed kitchen cabinetry, and hanging cupboards. The wall is designed to be highly efficient, making the most of the available space.
The living area features lye-washed Douglas fir floorboards that continue up onto the rear wall in a vertical batten arrangement, creating a sense of height and grandeur in the room. The flush doors and discretely carved handles are concealed within the wall’s protrusions, adding to the sleek and modern aesthetic.
The ensuite bathrooms are finished in a microcement finish that covers the walls, floor, ceiling, and cabinetry, creating a cocoon-like atmosphere. The cabinetry is ultra-matt grey through-coloured MDF, which complements the rich language of dark pitted concrete vanity units, basins, and worktops.
